This 500 sq ft, 2-bedroom apartment in Tai Po has undergone a comprehensive renovation to create a modern, multifunctional living space tailored to the needs of the clients - a friendly couple. The primary design goals were to open up the kitchen to enhance interaction and make the living area feel more spacious, transform one of the bedrooms into a multipurpose guest room/relaxation space, utilize smart storage solutions and flexible partitions to maximize functionality, and incorporate a warm, soothing color palette and natural materials to cultivate a cozy ambiance.

The enclosed kitchen has been opened up with an island counter, allowing the female owner to enjoy cooking while interacting with her partner and guests. This open layout creates a more social and spacious feel in the living areas. One of the original bedrooms has been converted into a versatile guest room and relaxation space, with a large closet and drawers providing ample storage, and a raised wooden platform serving as a cozy lounging area with concealed storage below.

The solid walls between rooms have been replaced with glass partitions that can be switched between transparent and opaque modes. Sliding doors allow the guest room to be closed off for privacy when hosting visitors, while remaining visually connected to the rest of the home when not in use. The original bay window has been clad in warm wood and can transform into a guest bed when needed, or serve as a cozy reading and coffee nook without guests.

The warm oak wood flooring, cabinetry, and wooden accents throughout create a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Pops of green, including the kitchen backsplash, island countertop, window blinds, and bedroom wall, add a soothing, natural touch. Pendant lighting and a ceiling fan in the living room provide both ambiance and gentle air circulation.
